Part-time BSL Interpreter (Permanent)

16 hours per week, term time

Salary: NJC Pay Scale Points 23-26 (£32,076 - £34,834 per annum pro rata)

Jordanstown School is a specialist school for children and young people aged 3-19 who are deaf and/or vision impaired. There are currently 90 pupils enrolled at the school, and 56 staff who work together towards the school's mission of maximising the potential of every child in its care. The school provides a broad and balanced curriculum designed to meet pupils' individual needs and aspirations. Teachers are assisted in their work with pupils by support staff with specialist skills. Both spoken English and BSL are widely used throughout the school and staff are encouraged to complete BSL qualifications with the support of the school.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join a dynamic, committed and skilled team providing support to pupils aged 3 to 19 who are deaf and/or vision impaired. The successful candidate will play an integral role supporting the communication needs of pupils and staff.

JOB PURPOSE

  • To deliver interpreting services for the school
  • To work collaboratively under the direction of class teachers to support the communication needs of deaf pupils in or outside the classroom, including off-site at other schools or colleges

Additional opportunities may be provided outside the contracted hours.

Attention will be paid by the school to the best-practice guidance provided by the NRCPD and ASLI.
