Part time: 14 hours per week

Open ended (permanent)

The Opportunity:

We are seeking 2 dedicated individuals to undertake day to day housekeeping and cleaning within our Bioresearch & Veterinary Services facilities. Responsibilities include essential sterilisation support in the wash up areas, such as cleaning used rodent cages and rodent drinking water bottles. The role requires the ability to work in a physically demanding environment. There are no minimum qualifications, though knowledge of animal welfare and husbandry is advantageous. You will be primarily based at Edinburgh Bioquarter (1 post) and George Square (1 post), with potential requirements to cover colleagues' leave at Easter Bush, Western General, and Kings Buildings.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Good communication skills, with the ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing, accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions.
  • Awareness of Health and Safety, particularly manual handling.
  • Ability to lift 22 kg and push cage racks weighing 90-130 kg.
  • Familiarity with standard IT equipment and basic computer skills to complete online training sessions, send/receive emails and request annual leave.
  • To be part of a diverse and vibrant international community.

Physiological demands:

  • Manual handling of heavy cage racks.
  • Physical movement around animal housing areas.
