£40,737 to £47,925

Other essential information: Required to work alternating shift patterns, including weekends, Bank Holidays and unsociable hours.

Objective of role

The Parks and Events Police Service are responsible for the routine patrolling of the parks, commons, and open spaces within Wandsworth; the enforcement of byelaws, dog control public spaces protection orders and other park regulations; and the policing of events.Parks and Events Police officers are attested as constables by a magistrate and have powers within the parks, commons, and open spaces. They also have a specific duty to ensure that these spaces remain safe and welcoming places for everyone to visit.The Parks and Events Police Service provide a service 365 days a year and officers are on duty during peak hours.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity opened up within the Parks and Events Police Service as a Parks and Events Police Sergeant. Your routine duties will include patrolling the borough's parks and open spaces, enforcing byelaws and other park regulations, policing events, crowd management and event traffic control. You also will beresponsiblefor the day-to-day supervision of the Parks and Events Police Constables and their dutiesTraining will be given to the right candidate who has demonstrated an aptitude towards law enforcement or experience in other areas of law enforcement. They must also be a good communicator, with a level of grammar to prepare witness statements and prepare cases for court or other agencies, be customer focused and have an ability for solution focused problem solving.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

You will have recent experience of working in a policing role, with a working knowledge of Criminal Law and the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984. You must also hold a full UK driving licence (manual).

  • Recent experience of working within one of the following services: Home Office Police Service, Parks Police Service, British Transport Police or other Police Service where enforcing the law, rules and regulations have been necessary.
  • Experience of supervising a team of constables working in dispersed locations.
  • Experience of devising, planning, and executing large scale enforcement operations.
  • Experience of dealing either with traffic control and / or the control of crowds at events.
  • Experience of attending court and presenting evidence
  • Experience of assisting members of the public both face to face and on the telephone.
  • Experience of monitoring and operating CCTV.
  • Experience of using Microsoft IT packages and databases.
