Job Description

Honing Parish Council is seeking a motivated, organised, and community-minded individual to take on the role of Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer (RFO).

This is a part-time role supporting the Council in delivering local services and ensuring the smooth running of parish council business.

About the Role

The Parish Clerk is the Council's Proper Officer and advisor, responsible for:

  • Preparing agendas and minutes for council meetings
  • Providing administrative and procedural support to councillors
  • Managing correspondence and parish records
  • Maintaining financial records and budgets as Responsible Financial Officer
  • Ensuring the Council complies with statutory requirements and governance procedures
  • Liaising with residents, contractors, and external organisations
Meetings

Honing Parish Council holds 4 council meetings per year, usually in the evening. The Clerk will also undertake administrative duties between meetings.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have good administrative and organisational skills
  • Be confident using email, Word, and spreadsheets
  • Have good communication skills and attention to detail
  • Be able to work independently and maintain confidentiality
  • Have an interest in local government and community matters
  • Previous parish or local government experience would be welcomed but is not essential, as training and support can be provided.
