We are looking for an experienced Paediatric ANP to join our Neighbourhood Access Service, part of the innovative New Models Programme. You will work within our practices in the Wellingborough neighbourhood to deliver same day support to our patients.

Main duties of the job

The Paediatric ANP will provide autonomous, advanced clinical care within the Neighbourhood Access Service, part of the New Models Programme designed to improve same-day access and reduce pressure on GP time. This role focuses on urgent and reactive paediatric presentations, supporting children and young people with acute illness, minor injuries and safeguarding concerns, while liaising with secondary care for complex cases.

Working as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team, the postholder will deliver advanced assessments, diagnosis, treatment and prescribing for paediatric patients, ensuring safe, effective and family centred care. The role will also contribute safeguarding, and reduce health inequalities in line with Core20PLUS5 priorities, while supporting service development and digital interoperability across neighbourhood sites.

The Neighbourhood of Wellingborough, consisting of 8 GP Practices, is seeking to develop an innovative new model of care. You will be working with a team of GPs and other specialist ANPs to deliver same day care to the Wellingborough population.

Reports to: Clinical Director for Neighbourhood, Project Lead for Neighbourhood

Accountable to: Neighbourhood Steering Group

Key Relationships: Patients and Carers, Practice/Network GPs, Nursing Staff, Neighbourhood Access Service team, Community Paediatric Teams, Safeguarding Leads, Social Care and VCSE partners, Pharmacists.

Overview of Responsibilities Clinical

• Provide same-day paediatric assessments for patients referred to the Neighbourhood Access Service.
• Manage undifferentiated paediatric presentations, including acute minor illness and common childhood illnesses, including escalation where required.
• Prescribe and review medication in line with local formulary and NICE guidance.
• Deliver evidence-based interventions for common childhood conditions and minor injuries.
• Liaise with community paediatric teams, safeguarding leads, and social care for continuity of care.
• Ensure accurate documentation and coding in clinical systems (SystmOne/EMIS).

Regulatory

• Adhere to safeguarding policies for children and young people.
• Comply with Data Protection Act, GDPR and Caldicott principles.
• Participate in clinical governance, incident reporting and service audits.

Personal / Professional Development

• Maintain own personal / professional development plan and portfolio thereby meeting the requirements for revalidation through appraisal of own performance and discussion of development needs with mentor, supervisors and managers on a regular basis.
• Maintain NMC registration and professional development in line with expectations of the role.
• Work at all times within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
• Provide mentorship and training of new recruits or students as and when required.
• Participate in the Practice Performance Review process.

Person Specification Knowledge

• Understanding of NICE guidance and local paediatric pathways
• Awareness of safeguarding for children and young people
• Knowledge of population health management and Core20PLUS5 priorities

Experience

• Significant experience in paediatric assessment and management in urgent care or community settings
• Experience in service development or audit

Qualifications

• MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice (or working towards)
• Advanced assessment, diagnosis and prescribing skills for children
• Ability to manage acute paediatric presentations
• Experience in writing clinical protocols
