Our clerks are trained to support a patient's pathway through Outpatients, from referral to treatment, so in this role you can really make a difference.
You could work in our busy outpatient clinics, on the outpatient reception desk, and in our Outpatient Contact Centre, using various appointment computer systems to book, cancel and answer patient appointment enquiries on the telephone.

Main duties of the jobThe postholder will liaise with patients and Trust colleagues, face to face, by telephone and by e mail, to ensure patients' appointments are booked, cancelled and monitored efficiently.
Regularly work at the reception at outpatient clinics and also answer the Trust's Appointment Line dealing with patients' appointment queries.
General office administration & duties, including opening & distributing post, emails, dealing with routine correspondence & highlighting correspondence of an urgent nature, photocopying, filing.
Deal with complex patient queries that could not be resolved at the triage stage via telephone, web chat and other channels.
Communicate clearly, sensitively, and professionally with patients, some of whom may be distressed or have additional needs, including those who do not speak English as a first language.

Person Specification Experience- Previous clerical/administrative experience in a busy office environment
- Experience in customer service roles, especially handling telephone queries
- Previous NHS or healthcare administrative experience
- Experience of working with confidential and sensitive information
- Understanding of the importance of patient confidentiality and data protection
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and diffuse challenging situations professionally
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage time effectively
- Ability to input and retrieve data from electronic systems accurately
- Familiarity with outpatient appointment booking procedures
- Knowledge of NHS access targets and RTT (Referral to Treatment) pathways
- Ability to generate simple reports and spreadsheets
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, including English and Maths (A-C / 9-4)
- Demonstrable evidence of continuous personal development
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Business Administration or Customer Service
