A unique opportunity has arisen for a band 6 to support the ward manager and the team on Ward C8 Orthopaedics. The role will deputise for the ward manager in their absence and support them with leadership and management of the ward area.
This is a fantastic role to develop your nursing career further in leadership and management.
We welcome applications from experienced band 5 registered nurses or junior sister/charge nurses with a drive for improvement and leading change.
Main duties of the jobYou will support the ward manager and matron in aspects of ward management in order to achieve a quality and standard of care and service, oversee the ward in the absence of the ward manager, take the lead role in clinical care, maintaining high standards in coordinating individualised programmes of care.
You will also act as a key worker and role model for service users and staff, supporting and supervising care delivered, ensuring high standards are achieved including infection control.
Support staff with training and development.
Review incidences, complaints and support with any learning for improvement and/or share good practice and feedback.
You will be clinically responsible for the co-ordination and implementation of effective Orthopaedic care. You will liaise with other professionals and with those providing support services.
The post requires effective communication and an ability to provide support to the clinical lead in their area of work.
Person Specification Qualifications- Current and relevant registration on NMC Register
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
- Recent attendance on a leadership development programme
- Educated to degree level
- Experience in surgical nursing
- Success in working collaboratively across professions and services
- Demonstrable understanding of managing change
- Introduced evidence-based practice
- Previous experience of sister/charge nurse position
- NHS experience
- Clinical practice and demonstrable knowledge of developments in nursing policy and practice
- Awareness of patient safety and risk management (Datix, safeguarding, infection control, NQM's)
- Awareness of KPI's
- Awareness of quality improvement awareness/involvement
- Understand the Trust Clinical Governance agenda and how to apply to practice
- Ability to lead, motivate and empower others
- Highly developed communications skills
- Inter-personal skills
- Ability to prioritise work
- Positive and effective team worker
- Writing and presentation skills
- Awareness of leadership style and ability to adapt
