Operations Engineering Manager - In-House - Client-Side Role

Location: West London, some EU and UAE Travel

About the Opportunity
This is a rare and exciting client-side opportunity for a seasoned Operations Engineering Manager to join a leading data centre owner/operator with a growing portfolio of high-performance facilities across Europe and the Middle East.

In this in-house leadership role, you will oversee all engineering, technical operations, and facilities management across one or more mission-critical sites. You'll work directly for the client, not a service provider, giving you real ownership, influence, and long-term career potential within the organisation.

You'll lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and manage all aspects of uptime, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement in a live data centre environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set and execute operational and engineering strategy aligned with group objectives.
  • Lead engineering teams to ensure rapid fault resolution and optimal system performance.
  • Enforce a strong Change Management process to minimise service disruption.
  • Promote a proactive Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) culture across sites.
  • Oversee all building infrastructure systems: electrical, mechanical, BMS, CAFM, etc.
  • Act as Senior Authorised Person (SAP) for High and Low Voltage systems.
  • Manage the Permit to Work (PTW) system and review RAMS for all activities.
  • Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes.
  • Deliver robust Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor site KPIs, service levels, and operational risks, ensuring swift resolution of issues.
  • Manage third-party contractors, ensuring safe, compliant, and cost-effective delivery.
Stakeholder & Customer Engagement
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders and customers on operational matters.
  • Attend service review meetings and deliver performance reports.
  • Communicate planned/unplanned maintenance updates clearly and professionally.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to meet reporting and documentation deadlines.
  • Ensure all Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and compliance obligations are met or exceeded.
Financial & Budget Oversight
  • Plan and manage OPEX and CAPEX in partnership with Group Finance.
  • Track and report on operational budgets, ensuring cost controls are in place.
  • Support procurement activity and vendor management with a focus on value and performance.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving and efficiency improvement opportunities.
Vendor, Contractor & Team Management
  • Lead and support engineering staff and on-site contractors.
  • Coordinate safe, efficient, and compliant execution of all works.
  • Monitor vendor performance against KPIs and SLAs.
  • Ensure all procurement follows internal policy and best practice.
What We're Looking For
  • Proven leadership experience in data centres, critical environments, or mission-critical facilities.
  • Strong technical expertise across electrical and mechanical systems (UPS, HVAC, BMS, Generators, etc.).
  • Certified HV/LV Authorised Person
  • Strong knowledge of compliance, risk, and HSE regulations.
  • Experience managing engineering teams, budgets, and third-party vendors.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Calm under pressure and capable of managing operations in a 24/7 environment.
  • Willingness to travel across Europe and the Middle East when required.
Why Join?
  • Client-Side, In-House Role: Step away from service-provider models and take full ownership of operational outcomes.
  • International Exposure: Be part of a growing data centre portfolio spanning Europe and the Middle East.
  • Career Growth: Join a stable, well-funded organisation with strong ambitions and a supportive leadership team.
  • Impact: Lead mission-critical operations where your work directly supports global digital infrastructure.
