PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £40,500 to £50,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. This role is working as part of a shift pattern covering 05:00 - 00:00 seven days per week.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

BBC Wales Technology Support is the team keeping all of your favourite output on air across Wales. Our team is self motivated and customer focused. We are based at the UK's most technologically advanced broadcast centre in the heart of Cardiff. From Radio drama to TV drama, Live Orchestra to Live news. You name it and we are across it. Our Engineers are responsible for the installation and maintenance of a wide range of systems covering all aspects of Broadcasting across Radio, Television and Online. Engineers may work as part of a team or work independently to maintain the required service. They will carry out engineering tasks that are complex and for which full technical information may not be available.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

You will be required to work as a part of the engineering support team on current projects, dealing with operational support and faults.

  • You will repair faults quickly or identify and implement alternative ways of providing programme requirements to overcome technical problems and maintain continuity of work in the production area.
  • On occasions you may be required to drive a pool/hire car to provide support at BBC Wales sites/OBs where you hold a valid driving licence.
  • You will be proactive in seeking opportunities to further your knowledge and skills and seek guidance and training when required.
  • You should understand the technologies and systems that support BBC Wales production and transmission operations for TV and Radio.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

You will diagnose and troubleshoot a range of technical issues across our broadcast infrastructure, including but not limited to Post Production, Radio Studios, TV Studios and Galleries, TV Playout. A good working knowledge of Macintosh systems and experience working on broadcast/IT systems in a live TV or multimedia environment are desirable.

  • ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
  • Good technical knowledge of at least 2 broadcast systems (e.g., AVID, DIRA, AR/VR, Radio Visualisation, Graphics (VizRT) and editing software solutions)
  • Experience within a television/radio broadcast environment or similar technical environment
  • Experience of studio automation and robotic systems
  • Experience of providing successful technical solutions through to BAU Operation
  • Experience Supporting Morpheus Playout systems or similar / MC
  • DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
  • Windows 10/11 Installation & Administration, Remote Administration, IIS and web hosting technologies, Jira, Ansible IT Automation, PowerShell & VB scripting
  • Active Directory understanding, knowledge of Windows patch management
  • A good understanding of networking to debug network issues
  • Awareness of all aspects of Health and Safety, particularly electrical safety within broadcast environments
