This temporary opportunity sits within a busy operational team responsible for coordinating field-based activities and ensuring service delivery targets are achieved.
Your new roleAs a Temporary Operations Controller / Scheduler, you will play a key role in planning and coordinating the day-to-day activities of operational teams. You will manage work schedules, ensure efficient deployment of resources, and monitor performance against agreed targets and service level agreements.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and approving daily work schedules and resource allocations
- Coordinating operational teams ("gangs") to ensure tasks are completed on time and to standard
- Managing and updating works management systems, including reviewing suspended or rejected jobs
- Monitoring job completion quality, ensuring accurate data capture (labour, materials, and supporting evidence)
- Responding to urgent or emergency works and adjusting schedules accordingly
- Producing daily and weekly reports on operational performance
- Liaising with supervisors and key stakeholders to resolve on-site issues
- Ensuring communication across teams to maintain performance targets and service delivery
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce operational inefficiencies
What you'll need to succeedTo be successful in this role, you will need:
- Proven experience in a planning, scheduling, or operations coordination role
- Strong organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication skills, with confidence liaising with operational teams and stakeholders
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- A proactive problem-solving approach and strong attention to detail
- Experience in highways, infrastructure, utilities, or a similar operational environment (desirable)
- Knowledge of NRSWA / permitting processes (advantageous)
- Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic and reactive environment
