Job Description

Our Award Winning memory clinic has been established for many years, and we are very proud to provide our patients with a service that facilitates early diagnosis of Dementia.

We are looking for an Old Age Psychiatrist to work as part of our memory clinic for 20 hours per month.

You will be supported by dedicated experienced support staff who are responsible for supporting you during pre arranged clinics, undertaking initial contacts and assessments for new patients and providing on going support and information to patients carers and families. The team prepares clinic notes and files to ensure that clinics run smoothly and efficiently.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide psychiatric assessment and management for older adults referred from primary care, GPs, Relatives / Carers, and other local pathways with conditions including short term memory Loss, depression, anxiety, psychosis, bipolar disorder, and dementia.
  • Offer consultation and joint case management with the Elder Care Facilitator, GPs and community mental health practitioners.
  • Support medication review, complex prescribing, and deprescribing in collaboration with primary care colleagues.
  • Participate in memory assessment services and contribute to dementia diagnosis and post diagnostic support.
  • Provide crisis intervention and risk management for patients with acute deterioration in mental state.
  • Support advance care planning, capacity assessments, and safeguarding where appropriate.

Job responsibilities

The Old Age Psychiatrist will provide specialist psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and management for older adults presenting with memory issues / mental health issues in a primary care and community setting.

Working in close collaboration with, Elder Care Facilitators Gnosall memory clinic, GPs, practice nurses, social care, and community mental health teams, the postholder will help deliver integrated, person centred care that promotes independence, early intervention, and mental wellbeing among older adults.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

Person Specification Qualifications
  • MbChB / MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practice
  • Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent
  • Experience in Old Age Psychiatry
  • Research or audit experience relevant to old age psychiatry
  • Experience in community and primary care liaison psychiatry
