Job Description

Hanley Castle High School is seeking a highly effective and experienced teacher to deliver our Nurture provision for pupils in Years 7 and 8, supporting those who require a gentler transition into secondary school. Rooted in a nurturing approach, the role focuses on creating a safe, structured and emotionally supportive environment where pupils can develop confidence, resilience and readiness for mainstream learning. Working with a smaller group of learners, the Nurture Teacher delivers a blend of academic teaching, social-emotional development and pastoral care, providing highly adaptive lessons that bridge learning gaps and prepare pupils for reintegration into the wider curriculum.

Whether you are an experienced primary school teacher who would like to develop your career in a secondary setting, or a secondary SEND specialist with experience working with pupils who are not yet secondary-ready, this position offers the opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues and make a significant contribution to the future development of the school. The successful candidate will work closely with the Assistant Headteacher (SENDCo), pastoral staff, subject teachers and external agencies, and will also oversee the provision and support for our Looked After Children.

The ideal candidate will be a proven effective teacher with successful teaching experience, a good honours degree in an appropriate subject and Qualified Teacher Status, who demonstrates secure knowledge of relevant subjects and curriculum areas alongside high standards of literacy and articulacy. The successful candidate will understand how pupils develop and learn, know what can inhibit learning and use this to plan adaptive, inclusive teaching that inspires, motivates and challenges pupils of all backgrounds and abilities. They will be able to manage behaviour effectively and fairly, build positive relationships rooted in mutual respect, communicate professionally with colleagues and parents, and contribute positively to the wider life and ethos of the school. A commitment to safeguarding, to working as part of a team, and to ongoing professional development is essential, as is the ability to monitor progress, use assessment effectively and maintain accurate records within a nurturing, SEMH focused context.
