I am working with a warm, welcoming early years setting based in the Brighton area, offering a homely and nurturing environment for young children. The setting follows an eco-conscious and holistic approach, embedding sustainability into daily practice through environmentally friendly initiatives and hands-on learning experiences for children.

Overview

We are seeking an experienced and committed Deputy Nursery Manager to support the leadership and daily running of a busy childcare setting. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for early years education to play a key role in maintaining high standards of care and learning.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Nursery Manager, taking responsibility for the setting in their absence. You will lead and inspire a team, ensure regulatory compliance, oversee operational management, and promote a positive, inclusive environment for children, families, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Share responsibility for the overall management of the nursery and act as deputy in the Nursery Manager's absence
  • Lead, motivate, and manage the nursery team, including recruitment, training, supervision, and performance appraisals
  • Oversee daily operations to ensure the highest standards of care and education
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, safeguarding requirements, health and safety regulations, and internal policies
  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment for children's development
  • Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with parents and carers, keeping them informed of their child's progress and wellbeing
  • Manage administrative duties including staffing rotas, budgeting, and resource planning
  • Support and promote continuous professional development within the team
  • Drive ongoing improvements to maintain and enhance the quality of nursery provision

Hours: Full-time only (approximately 35-40 hours per week)

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in Early Years or Childcare
  • Proven management or senior leadership experience within an early years setting
  • In-depth knowledge of child development, childcare practices, and the EYFS framework
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, support, and develop a team
  • Sound understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
