As an NHS 111 Clinical Practitioner youll Bring:

  • Autonomous clinical assessment skills and experience managing complex, common urgent care presentations.
  • Registered Nurse, Paramedic or Pharmacist (NMC, HCPC, GPhC) with prescribing rights
  • Evidence of robust clinical decision-making and risk management
  • Excellent communication skills, able to negotiate, explain and support patients and carers
  • Confidence using telephony-based clinical triage and digital systems
  • Compassion, professionalism and a commitment to lifelong learning

KeyAreas of Responsibility & Accountability

Clinical

Toprovide telephone based care and advice to NHS111 callers supported by the PathwaysClinical Consultation system (PaCCS). The practitioner will assess the patientand either give self-care advice or direct patients to onward referral points whererequired.

Topractice autonomously without direct supervision.

To exhibit excellent verbal communicationskills when dealing with patients and carers. To have the ability to make cleardecisions with confidence and communicate these effectively.

To apply robust clinical knowledgeto the validation of ambulance/Emergency Department outcomes and other patientcare outcomes generated via NHS 111.

To complete callbacks toHealthcare Professional contacts and ambulance crews on scene.

To effectively promote self-carewhere this is clinically appropriate

To ensure accurate and timelydocumentation of all patient contacts in line with service standards andprofessional requirements.

To work within the parameters ofyour skills and knowledge, recognising the limitations to your own practice andto work within the bounds of your training and capability according toregulatory codes of conduct.

Tomaintain an awareness of developments in clinical practice.

To workeffectively as part of a multi-professional team in collaboration with othermembers of the service.

Toadhere to performance measures.

Toprovide health promotion/accident prevention advice for patients and carers.

Discharge or refer patients asappropriate to internal or external clinical pathways via the Directory ofservices (DoS).

To demonstrate effective negotiationskills when necessary and establish concordance with patients on appropriatecourse of action to take for the level of care determined

To Prescribe, if a non-medicalprescriber (NMP), on the Electronic Transfer Prescription (ETP) and work withinthe limitations of current Non-Medical Prescribing legislation. The task willbe undertaken in-line with local and national guidelines. The NMP is expectedto work within their own competencies and the prescribing framework stipulatedby the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

To manage all calls in a controlled,timely and professional manner treating all patients with compassion, empathyand respect.

Communicate outstanding issues or concernsto the appropriate manager before going off duty.
