Applications are invited for the full time post of Pituitary and Central Skull Base Fellowship at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN). This fixed term (12 months) fellowship is ideally suited for a post CCT (or equivalent) neurosurgical trainee who wishes to develop pituitary neurosurgical skills in a major centre of excellence.
Main duties- Participation in pituitary neurosurgery clinics and peri /post operative management of pituitary patients.
- Integral member of the multidisciplinary pituitary team, including clinical supervision of junior doctors.
- Research, peer reviewed publication and presentation at national and international conferences.
- Teaching and training activities for residents, students and junior medical staff.
- Administrative support and quality improvement activities.

Person Specification- Full GMC registration with current licence to practise.
- Not previously relinquished from a training programme in this specialty unless under exceptional circumstances.
- FRCS (Neuro surg) or equivalent at the time of application.
- Demonstrable interest in and understanding of the specialty.
- Commitment to personal and professional development.
- Evidence of attendance at organised teaching and training programme.
- Evidence of self reflective practice.
- Possession of or ambition to work towards a higher degree.
- Extracurricular activities / achievements relevant to the specialty.
- Up to date and fit to practise safely with probity (honesty, integrity, ethical awareness, confidentiality).
- Capacity to take responsibility for own actions.
- Meets professional health requirements in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice.
- All applicants must have demonstrable written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics, as demonstrated by undergraduate medical training in English or IELTS scores overall 7 with sub scores 7 for all components.
- Evidence of experience in pituitary neurosurgery and intention to sub specialise in pituitary neurosurgery.
- Received basic surgical training in transsphenoidal techniques (microscopic and endoscopic) up to peri CCT level.
- Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgment.
- Proficiency in a range of medical procedures and manual dexterity.
- Evidence of competence in management of medical emergencies and in patients through continuous work based assessments.
- Evidence of competence to work without direct supervision where appropriate.
- Current ALS certification or equivalent.
- Skull base course, cadaveric dissection course, simulation training and additional clinical exposure to pituitary cases.
- Evidence of skills in the management of acute medical emergencies (e.g. ALERT, IMPACT certification).
- Experience in undertaking clinical research with peer reviewed publications.
- Understanding of research ethics, audit, clinical risk management, evidence based practice and patient safety.
- Formal training in research methodology and higher degree achievement.
- Teaching experience and participation in teaching courses.
- Clear written and spoken communication, rapport building, logical thinking and multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Leadership and organisational skills, including quality improvement projects.
- Effective multi professional team working and leadership supported by feedback.
- Information technology skills and evidence of achievement outside medicine.
