Sales Engineer

UK Public Sector (SC Cleared - Active Clearance Required)
Location: Remote (UK-based) with regular customer site travel
Package: £90,000-£120,000 base + 20% bonus + car allowance + comprehensive benefits
Security Clearance: Active UK SC clearance already held is mandatory. Applications without current SC cannot be considered.

Our client is a market leader in digital visibility and network intelligence, supporting some of the UK's most critical public sector and Government organisations.

Their technology provides deep, Real Time insight across complex digital environments, enabling customers to detect issues faster, secure critical infrastructure, and operate with confidence at scale.

Due to continued growth across UK public sector accounts, we are seeking an experienced Sales Engineer with a strong Government background and current SC clearance.

This is a highly client-facing, revenue-aligned presales role operating in secure and complex environments.

Clearance Requirement - Please Read Carefully

Candidates must already hold current UK SC clearance.

This role cannot support sponsorship or new clearance applications. Active SC clearance is a strict prerequisite for consideration.

The Role

Reporting to the Regional Sales Director, you will act as the technical authority across the full sales life cycle. You will translate complex network and security challenges into clear commercial value for senior stakeholders.

You will work closely with Account Directors, integrators, and public sector customers to shape solutions, deliver technical discovery, and support proof of value engagements.

This is a strategic, consultative role requiring technical depth and executive presence.

Key Responsibilities

Lead technical discovery sessions and shape solution architecture.
Support the full presales cycle from qualification through to close.
Deliver compelling demonstrations and PoC support.
Differentiate solutions against competitors using outcome-led value narratives.
Act as trusted advisor to Government and public sector stakeholders.
Support RFP/RFI responses and technical documentation.
Influence internal product and engineering teams with market feedback.
Represent the organisation at industry events and customer engagements.

Essential Experience

5+ years' experience in IT, including at least 2 years in presales, network engineering, or technical support.
Proven experience supporting UK Government or public sector accounts.
Strong executive communication skills, comfortable operating at C-suite level.
Demonstrated ability to translate technical problems into commercial outcomes.
Comfortable with 60-70% UK travel (3-4 customer days per week typical).

Technical Expertise Required

Strong working knowledge of:

Cisco routing, switching, gateways and applications.
TCP/IP, SNMP, NetFlow, VoIP.
LAN/WAN technologies including MPLS, Frame Relay, ATM.
Network infrastructure design and security concepts.
Network performance, fault and alert management.

Solid understanding of:

Linux and Windows operating systems.
Cloud and virtualisation technologies including SDN/NFV and public/private cloud.
Monitoring and performance tools such as HP/OV, Tivoli, EMC SMARTS, ArcSight.
Packet analysis and troubleshooting methodologies.
Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE are highly desirable.

Desirable Experience

Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent technical military background.
Knowledge of vendors such as Arbor, Radware, Riverbed, A10, ExtraHop.
Experience contributing to whitepapers or product strategy.
Exposure to security analytics, log analysis, anomaly detection or traffic monitoring.
Familiarity with NIST, ISO 27001 and network assurance frameworks.
Understanding of full packet capture tools such as Wireshark or Zeek.

Working Model & Location

Officially home-based.
Regular UK travel required for customer meetings and events.
Preference for candidates based in Central or Southern UK.
Exceptional candidates from Northern England will be considered.
