Job Title: Network Protection Officer
Reports to: Engineering Support Supervisor
Department: Commercial Operations
Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: £13.39
Job Purpose:
Your job is to drive a daily route, monitoring the clients network and equipment along the way. As you drive, you will identify any construction work, road repairs, or other activity happening near our existing infrastructure. When you identify work, you will engage with the contractors on-site to ensure they're aware of our equipment locations and taking appropriate precautions to avoid damage. You must liaise with teams to inform them of any work that could impact our operations or requires specialist oversight. Following each day's route drive, you are required to complete the documentation recording your observations and any issues identified.
Key Accountabilities:
Daily Route Planning
• Collect utility location requests from the engineering support team each day.
• Review electronic and paper utility maps, engineering plans, and drawings to identify where utilities are located.
• Schedule and attend meetings with contractors planning excavation work when required.
Field Work
• Visit sites along your route to verify utility locations match our records.
• Take field measurements and create notes and sketches (electronic or handwritten) when utilities are shown incorrectly on maps.
• Pass this information to technical staff so they can update our records.
• Ensure any work happening near the clients distribution network doesn't threaten network integrity now or in the future.
• Provide technical guidance to other utilities and external organizations about working safely near our live system.
Administration and Compliance
• Maintain accurate records by entering notes and closing out jobs in the system.
• Ensure all Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations are followed.
• Uphold company standards to protect the safety of staff, colleagues, contractors, and the public.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Act as the clients representative when dealing with contractors, the public, suppliers, and external organizations.
• Promote the company's interests in all interactions.
• Perform related work as assigned.

Essential
• Minimum 5 GCSE passes (or equivalent) to include English and Mathematics Grade C and above.
Desirable
• HS(G) 47 - Avoiding danger from underground services
• Banksman Training
• Street Works monitoring signing, lighting and guarding
• EUSR Utility SHEA Gas
Experience Desirable
• Experience of on-site excavation works including Banksman
• Risk Assessment
• Driving for Long Periods
• Excellent time management.

Job skills, knowledge and abilities Essential
• A full valid driving licence and at least 2 years driving experience.
Desirable
• Knowledge of underground utilities such as pipes, valves, fittings, services etc.
• Ability to understand utility maps, construction drawings and determine dimensions from scaled drawings.
• Ability to maintain accurate records, logs and reports.
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to work independently or with groups of employees, 3rd party contractors or general public and contribute effectively in a multi-functional environment.
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
