Job Description
ASA Recruitment's client, a Public Sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Network Engineer on a hybrid basis, for an initial 12 month contract (with potential extensions) on a rate of c.£400-450/day inside IR35 (based on experience).
Responsibilities- Overall systems management and service-wide configuration of network infrastructure assets and services. Under appropriate instruction, the post holder will be applying appropriate software and firmware patches, configuration tasks and support on capacity and availability planning.
- Second line service support to the organisation at large, and specialist support to the rest of the Communications Infrastructure Services. This will include responding to service incidents by performing initial triage and diagnosis, troubleshooting and investigation, and under appropriate instructions implementing problem resolution actions.
- Development of the communications infrastructure services and support on the implementation of service migration/transition projects. Such tasks include technical design input, documentation, process improvement, performance evaluation and collaborating with other IT stakeholders.
- Ensuring security measures are developed, assessments conducted and compliance applied consistently and effectively across the network to protect communications infrastructure assets.
- Maintain awareness of rapidly evolving technology and best practice.
- A University degree in a technical area together with some relevant experience; or significant relevant technical experience, demonstrating involvement in progressively more demanding technical roles.
- Good knowledge and experience of network switching and routing.
- At least two years' experience of and substantial expertise in data networks, including the detailed operation of the Internet Protocol (IP) and a wide range of higher-level protocols, network equipment, architecture and design, network security, and the Unix operating system.
- At least two years' experience of the operational management and service delivery of a data network or significant part thereof.
- Good general IT skills, with detailed and comprehensive knowledge and skills in relevant specialist areas.
- Good diagnostic, fault-finding and problem-solving skills in relevant highly technical areas.
