A little about our Dudley site:

Our advanced manufacturing site in Dudley, West Midlands, is a ready to cook site where value is added to the products by adding spices and other seasonings. Production capacity increases during the summer months at Dudley, as the demand for seasonal products such as barbeque food rises.

Our Dudley site employs approximately 400 talented individuals, who help to supply some of the UK's largest supermarkets and popular restaurants!

About the Role:

As an inclusive, forward-thinking business, we take pride in our approach to investing in our people across Avara Foods and are looking for a highly competent and motivated Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering Team, based at our Dudley site.

The role is factory based, so you'll be working in a fast paced, dynamic FMCG factory environment which is noisy and refrigerated in some areas, manufacturing short shelf life products where hygiene standards are critical. As an Engineer you'll be working Monday to Friday 15:30 to 00:00.

What will you be doing as an Engineer at Avara?

As a Multi skilled Maintenance Engineer you will optimise machinery output and product quality, and minimise plant downtime through effective preventative maintenance, efficient breakdown response whilst maintaining a safe and healthy environment and promoting good engineering practice.

What will your key responsibilities include?
  • Taking a lead role within your team during breakdowns with your skills and experience.
  • Ensuring that maintenance is carried out in line with PPM schedules and that effective and efficient corrective action is taken.
  • Quick and effective response to breakdowns in more than one area on site, where possible identifying root cause and suggesting possible improvements to prevent further breakdowns occurring.
  • Communicating unscheduled breakdowns to the Engineering Shift Manager / Principal Engineer and work with the operations department to minimise plant disruption.
  • Following engineering standards and good hygiene practice for the department & site.
  • Ensuring all activities are carried out within health and safety guidelines, highlighting possible areas of improvement to the Engineering Shift Manager / Principal Engineer.
  • Timely reporting of any Health and Safety, Animal Welfare and Environmental Issues.
  • Demonstrating basic fault finding techniques to identify root cause of issues.
  • Raising Stock and Non Stock request forms.
  • Use of the CMMS system for spare parts, to log and complete jobs.
What you'll need to be successful:
  • An advanced Engineering Apprenticeship in either mechanical or electrical disciplines
  • Solid Engineering experience, ideally within food manufacturing
  • Familiarity with process machinery or equivalent equipment and have the ability to fault find
  • Mechanical fitting skills. Machining, welding and fabrication experience would be advantageous.
  • The ability to mentor colleagues
  • A self motivated attitude with the ability to multi task and thrive in a timeline driven environment
  • An individual who is keen to make a difference with their pro activeness and a can do attitude.
  • Industrial refrigeration experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Desirable IEE 17th or 18th edition
  • Desirable Advanced Electrical qualification
  • Desirable good knowledge of PLCs, Variable speed drives and control systems
