Job Description
MSK Senior Clinical Fellow

Radiology Department - MSK Fellow - MT05

The Musculoskeletal Imaging fellowship is a one-year post-radiology CCT training program. The fellowship provides clinical experience across the full range of disorders affecting the adult musculoskeletal system. The program incorporates the application and interpretation of the full range of MSK imaging examinations and procedures including radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasonography, computed tomography, MRI, MR arthrography and image-guided percutaneous biopsy. There will be the opportunity to gain experience in CT intervention including image guided spinal intervention for pain management and MSK cryoablation cases. There are several orthopaedic and rheumatologic meeting including soft tissue sarcoma that fellows can participate in. There are 2 fellowship positions, start dates Aug 2026.

The post will include one session a week of dedicated research time and fellows will be expected to produce at least one peer reviewed research project over the course of the year. There is also opportunity for one session of paediatric MSK radiology if desired.

Th e new Royal department has two 1.5T MRI scanners, a 3T MRI and four CT scanners ranging from 128 multi-slice systems and a dual source CT. Orthopaedic out-patients and elective surgery are based at the BGH where there is a third 1.5T MRI scanner. There are MSK ultrasound lists running at both sites offering diagnostic and therapeutic image guided biopsy and injection services.

Person Specification Education, Qualification & Training
  • Medical Degree (MBBS, MChB or equivalent)
  • FRCR or equivalent
  • GMC registration which permits working in non training posts
  • Eligible to work in the UK at commencement
  • Is fit to practice
  • Attendance at relevant courses/ conferences
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication with patients and colleagues- demonstrated by one of the following: undertaken undergraduate medical training in English or 2. Have achieved score of 7 in speaking and overall and score of 6 in listening, reading and writing in the IELTS test.
Experience
  • At least 6 months as a specialist registrar in MSK reporting diagnostic, MRI, Ultrasound and CT examinations
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working
  • Evidence of working independently
Clinical skills
  • Technical Knowledge and Clinical Expertise ? Able to operate independently for most interventional MSK procedures and to include guided injections under ultrasound, CT and fluoroscopy. ? Demonstrates appropriate technical and clinical competence and evidence of diagnostic skills ? Logbook of radiology training to date
Personal Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
  • Judgement under pressure: Able to operate effectively under pressure and remain objective in highly emotive/ pressurised situations and to be aware of own limitations, knowing when to ask for help
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships on an individual, multi-professional and team basis with all levels of staff
