About the jobThe holder of this post is responsible for supporting the Fleet Depot Manager to ensure that the fleet allocated to Wimbledon Depot meets all safety, performance, maintenance, quality and train planning requirements, and for ensuring allocation of rolling stock to appropriate diagrams for the train plan.
Your main responsibilities will be:- Plan, organise, monitor and control all aspects of shift production to ensure all targets are met in terms of performance, availability and reliability of the train service.
- Identify and report rolling stock requiring attention to the WICC in order to maintain the allocated fleet in good condition.
- Control use of materials and levels of manning to ensure adequate resources while keeping expenditure within budget.
- Exercise delegated authority to make operations decisions for Clapham Depot on a shift basis, including:
- Authority to release units with non safety critical work outstanding.
- Authority to call in staff at short notice to cover roster shortfalls (e.g., sickness).
- Alter normal depot operations to enable continued operation during disruptions within regulatory constraints.
- Purchase or hire equipment and tooling necessary to complete outstanding work within delegated authority.
- Control work to ensure effective performance and compliance with standards, providing technical guidance to staff as necessary.
- Develop teams and plan for their training and competence assessments to A1 standard, conduct team briefings and act as the focal point for communication.
- Maintain high quality of workmanship and conduct quality checks and competency assessments as required.
- Assist engineering, technical and contracted support staff as necessary.
- Use IT systems to record compliance checks and produce documents relating to safety and environmental briefs.
- Ensure booking/recording of work is effectively controlled and reported within required timescales using the systems and methods in place.
- Ensure all work is completed or deferred and recorded before units are allocated to service.
- Ensure staff work to appropriate safety regulations, safety instructions and depot operating instructions.
- Prepare and allocate trains in time for train crew to take them for service, giving clear instruction to crews about unit and siding.
- Deploy staff involved in service departures to minimise risk of delays to outgoing services.
- Plan and conduct interviews as necessary for staff selection, discipline, poor performance, M4A, welfare and investigations.
- A good general education.
- Strong communication and report writing skills.
- Experience with IT systems.
- Good knowledge of operations and ability to apply current rules and regulations.
- Ability to compile reports on maintenance records.
- Thorough knowledge of Depot Operating Procedures and safety requirements or strong operational background.
- Staff management or supervisory experience.
- Authority to investigate and administer the discipline process to the investigatory level.
- Ability to recommend staff training needs.
- Experience compiling staff rosters and granting annual leave.
- Understanding of the attendance management process to level 2.
Applicants who require a visa must have 6 months remaining at the time of their appointment. Training is full time and you must be able to commit to this.
About the locationWimbledon Traincare Depot is a short walk from Wimbledon Park station and recently welcomed its first Class 701 train, marking a significant milestone in the £1bn transformation of suburban travel. Our current fleet, operating on the suburban network, consists of Classes 455 and 458 trains and will be replaced over a 2 year period with 90 brand new 701s. Drivers, maintenance and other depot colleagues are currently in training to develop the new skills needed for the next generation of trains that will be fitted with all new modern technology. Wimbledon depot will eventually become the new maintenance home for the entire Class 701 fleet.
Working patternAverage of 42 hours per week over 3.5 days, 4 on 4 off rotation /.
