TheCardiac MRI unit at Leeds Teaching Hospitals operates three dedicatedscanners across two modern facilities and performs over 3,500 NHS scans andaround 1,000 research studies annually. The service is highly regarded,holding BSCMR and EACVI accreditation, and is recognised for excellence inclinical care, research, and education.
Weare seeking a motivated and experienced Band 8a Radiographer to take on aleadership role within a multidisciplinary team that includes specialistradiographers, clinical assistants, consultants, research fellows,physicists, and international trainees. The role offers a flexible balancebetween clinical and research responsibilities.
Thedepartment provides a comprehensive service, including tertiary referrals forneonatal, paediatric, and adult patients across Yorkshire. It deliversadvanced cardiac MRI techniques such as stress perfusion and parametricmapping in clinical practice, alongside cutting-edge research methods like4D-flow, MR spectroscopy, and diffusion tensor imaging.
Main duties of the jobWeare looking to recruit a Health and Care Profession Council (HCPC) registeredsenior Radiographer with proven leadership, sophisticated communicationskills and a patient-centred approach. Applicants will be expected to haveexperience in effectively managing teams in a multi-disciplinary environment,have high levels of expertise in MRI and CMR, excellent time-management andorganisational skills and the ability to independently find solutions to thedemands of a complex clinical-academic environment. They will have a strongunderstanding of health & safety and risk management, particularly theinherent responsibilities within the MRI magnet environment.
Theirrole will span across both clinical and research CMR activity and the postholder will be responsible for managing the expectations and objectives ofboth the LTHT and the UoL, including service and research developmentplanning and implementation and to innovate concomitant conciliated workingsolutions. The post holder will have responsibility for the management of theradiographers working in CMR, be proficient in advanced CMR includingstandard clinical highly specialist research applications and to maintain thehigh quality patient/research participant focussed imaging service.

Job responsibilitiesTheCMR service in Leeds is a unique symbiotic relationship under the combinedguidance and leadership of two high profile institutions; the Leeds TeachingHospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) and the University of Leeds (UoL) that serves theadvancement of CMR and the understanding of cardiac health & diseaseprocesses and NHS CMR service delivery to a catchment population of 2.3m.
Theservice is delivered through 3 dedicated CMR scanners (Philips and Siemens)across two modern facilities within the Leeds General Infirmary; the CardiacMRI Unit (CMRU) and the primarily research focussed Advanced Imaging Centre(AIC). The combined service is responsible for over 3,500 NHS examinationsannually and approximately 1,000 local, national and international researchscans conducted through studies generated and led both in-house and throughdiverse external partnerships and collaborations. NHS service and universityresearch are delivered in close partnership between LTHT and UoL and allstaff in the CMR team contribute to both aspects of the service.
Thepost holder will be a state registered Radiographer with the Health CareProfessional Council (HCPC) and will both clinical leadership for the NHSservice and support the universitys research programme in CMR. As a cardiacMRI Radiographer Lead, the post holder may be required to practice theirimaging skills in either service location to provide and maintain thehigh-quality patient/research participant focussed imaging service.
Concurrently,the post holder will be responsible for progressively managing theexpectations and objectives of the LTHT and UoL to achieve their common goalssuch as future service and research development planning and implementationand, where they may differ on an operational or directional level, innovateconcomitant conciliated working solutions.
