Temporary (Approx 12 weeks)

£13.69 per hour

37 hours per week

Main Purpose

The Porter is required to provide and maintain a quality customer service, ensuring that facilities are clean and well prepared, equipment is serviceable and properly handled and health and safety and hygiene standards are maintained throughout, in accordance with internal quality assurance system.

The post holder will assume other delegated duties relevant to the post as reasonably assigned by the Duty Officer/Facilities Manager including participation in the interchange of duties to cover annual leave, sickness absences, shifts, etc.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  1. The services falling within the responsibility of this post are as follows:
  2. Assist with the smooth running of the facility Mail Room.
  3. Prepare post for distribution and dispatch.
  4. Deliver and collect promptly as directed, mail, messages and goods to and from various Departments and assist with the smooth running of the Mail Room to the required standard.
  5. Event/room set ups and changeovers for all events (theatres, wedding, conferences, banquets, meetings and exhibitions).
  6. To erect, dismantle and store equipment in line with the Council's Manual Handling Procedures.
  7. Set up audio-visual equipment in rooms and control lighting equipment and PA for weddings in Island Hall and other rooms.
  8. Assist with early opening/late closing of the facility and key holding duties on a shift basis and in line with facility programme requirements.
  9. Assist the manager on duty by supervising use of the facility by the public, ensuring provision of high standards of customer care, responding to customer complaints/queries, and directing these to the manager on duty as required.
  10. This will include:
  11. To provide security cover of the building, its contents Checking all deliveries of goods to the facility General cleaning duties of interior/exterior areas as directed, operating any machinery or equipment required.
  12. Assist with maintenance as directed, together with appropriate record keeping.
  13. To provide Reception/Telephone cover including operation of front desk, switchboard, computerised bookings and cash handling.
  14. Undertake appropriate training required for the job, e.g. manual handling, Evacuation procedures, lone working and first aid.

Responsibilities also include;

  1. Help ensure that all Child Protection and Vulnerable Adult legislation, published relevant guidelines and Council policies and procedures are complied with in the operation of the services and activities of the facility, to help ensure a safe environment for both customers and work colleagues.
  2. Ensure the provision of high standards of customer care across all the services provided by the Unit and promote the service effectively and communicate in a way, which enhances and promotes the public image and overall reputation of the Council.
  3. Help ensure that the very highest standards of health and safety for both customers and colleagues are maintained at all times and that all relevant statutory health and safety requirements and Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council health and safety policies, procedures and work instructions are adhered to at all times.
  4. Develop and enhance working relationships with relevant partners and stakeholders to maximise corporate and community planning outcomes and to generate innovation in service delivery.

Essential Criteria:

It is essential that applicants have a minimum of:

EXPERIENCE

1.1 - A minimum of 1 Years 'previous experience in a similar post with specific experience in at least four of the following areas:

  • Mail room
  • Erecting, dismantling, storing of equipment
  • Reception
  • Security
  • Cleaning
  • Maintenance work
