Job Description

About the Role

This role is essential in supporting frontline policing by maintaining clean, safe, and effective working environments across the Bedfordshire police estate.

You will travel between sites to complete scheduled cleaning tasks, while also responding to urgent or ad-hoc operational requirements. The role requires a strong focus on health and safety, hygiene standards, and infection prevention, ensuring all work is carried out in line with relevant policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Deliver high-quality cleaning services across multiple police sites, including:

  • Offices
  • Communal areas
  • Welfare facilities
  • Operational environments, including Custody suites

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection prevention, including effective touchpoint cleaning

• Use cleaning chemicals, equipment, and PPE safely and correctly, in line with COSHH and Health & Safety guidance

• Follow safe systems of work, including correct colour coding and task sequencing to prevent cross-contamination

• Maintain appropriate levels of cleaning stock and equipment within Force vehicles

• Complete cleaning records and logs accurately, reporting any issues or shortages

• Identify and report hazards, maintenance issues, or security concerns promptly

• Respond flexibly to operational priorities, including urgent or reactive cleaning tasks

About You

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:

• The ability to deliver consistent cleaning standards across multiple sites
• Knowledge of hygiene practices and safe use of cleaning chemicals
• A working understanding of health and safety requirements
• Experience using cleaning machinery
• The ability to follow procedures, schedules, and instructions
• The ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively
• Good communication skills when engaging with staff at all levels
• Physical capability to stand, bend, and lift equipment regularly
• Confidence using basic IT systems (email, reporting, timesheets)

Essential:

• Full UK driving licence (vehicle provided during working hours)
• Ability to pass a basic police driving assessment (where required)
• Willingness to undertake security vetting (RV clearance)

Desirable:

• IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent Health & Safety qualification
• Experience in public sector or similar environments
• Knowledge of infection control practices
