Job Description
The Metal Fabrication Apprentice will learn and develop the skills required to become a fully qualified Fabricator/Welder. Working under the guidance of experienced tradespeople, the apprentice will support the fabrication and assembly of metal components, gain experience in welding processes, and learn to interpret technical drawings while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
Learning & Development- Participate fully in the apprenticeship training programme (both on site and off site).
- Learn to read and interpret technical drawings and fabrication sketches.
- Develop skills in:
- MIG welding (TIG/Stick exposure as applicable)
- Cutting, grinding, drilling, and shaping metal
- Assembly of steel components
- Basic quality inspection and measurement
- Assist qualified Fabricators with the manufacture of structural steel components.
- Prepare materials for fabrication, including marking out and pre assembly.
- Use hand and power tools under supervision.
- Support with general workshop duties such as material handling and maintaining equipment.
- Follow company quality control procedures and complete tasks to specification.
- Check work for accuracy as skills develop.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment.
- Comply with all health and safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Learn safe operation of workshop machinery.
- Report any hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions.
- Genuine interest in fabrication, welding, engineering, or manufacturing.
- Willingness to learn and develop practical trade skills.
- Good work ethic, reliability, and positive attitude.
- Basic numeracy and ability to measure accurately.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Eligibility and commitment to completing the full apprenticeship programme.
- Previous exposure to a workshop, construction, or engineering environment.
- Experience using basic hand tools or power tools.
- School subjects such as metalwork, engineering, construction, or technology.
- Motivated, dependable, and eager to learn.
