Mentoring Volunteer - Hampshire County Council
Posted 3 days 19 hours ago by Unity Online
Mentoring volunteers provide guidance and encouragement for young people aged 11-17 who are open to Children's Services. This will likely include face-to-face meetings, supporting them to attend meetings and appointments and increasing their self-esteem. A crucial aspect will be the ability to build positive relationships which allow young people to feel listened to and supported and continue for as long as needed.
Face to face meetings are likely to take place in a variety of local settings to be agreed between the young person, volunteer and volunteer coordinator, and may include schools, youth clubs, cafés etc. A small allowance is granted per session for food/drinks/etc.
The mentoring role may also include providing tailored practical and emotional support to young people who are going through the process of being looked after by Special Guardians, focusing on preventing further family breakdown and promoting stability.
Mentors may also support the work of Children's Services when reuniting children in care with their families (Going Home) by providing practical assistance to facilitate positive parent-child interaction.
Volunteers will receive a full training programme on how to deliver support which will equip them to provide guidance and advice. Volunteers will also have access to volunteer coordinators, who will provide guidance, advice and supervision whilst they are delivering their volunteering activities.
