Job Description
Overview

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust is offering a Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner role within the Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Service in the Mental Health Services Urgent Care and Access Pathway.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide timely support and assessment to individuals with vulnerabilities in Police Custody or Court, including mental state examinations and risk assessment.
  • Work with Police on the Triage Car to facilitate effective responses to incidents involving mental health or learning disabilities, aiming to reduce unnecessary detentions under Section 136 Mental Health Act and avoid voluntary attendances to A&E.
  • Promote independence, foster a learning culture, enhance service user autonomy, and ensure high quality, compassionate, person centred care.
  • Line manage and supervise junior team members clinically and professionally.
  • Ensure evidence based practice and continual service quality improvement.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate individualised care following comprehensive assessments.
  • Collaborate clinically within a multi agency team to deliver and develop an effective service in line with legislative, procedural and contractual requirements.
  • Operate across custody, magistrates court, outreach and the triage car, managing shifts from 7.5 to 12.5 hours over a seven day week.
  • Provide safe, culturally competent, effective, timely and accessible care responsive to individuals in contact with the service.
About the role

The service operates from police custody and court, directly engaging vulnerable people within the criminal justice system. The role may require travel between police stations and community venues. The post is open to experienced practitioners across disciplines including mental health nursing, social work and occupational therapy.

Person Specification

Required: Band 6 mental health practitioner with substantial mental health experience and interest or experience in the criminal justice system. Ability to conduct mental state examinations, risk assessment and supervise junior staff.

This role requires a DBS check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
