Mental Health Practitioner

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Team Manager in the development of operational and clinical service mechanisms. Act as an exemplar professional role model in embracing core values of dignity, respect, care, and compassion. Be aware of and keep updated on wider agreed service models. The post holder will work to establish effective multi-disciplinary working. The post holder will undertake mental health assessments and risk assessments, care planning, and implementation and review of service to people referred to the team both individually and with colleagues from other disciplines. To care coordinate those on CPA ensuring that reviews are held in line with policy and guidelines. To provide structured therapeutic interventions with potentially complex clients in one-to-one sessions or group settings as appropriate. To manage a caseload and to prioritise effectively. To participate in multi-disciplinary team working to ensure service user needs are met. To use effective judgement and interventions in emergency clinical situations. To liaise with other professionals and agencies in the planning and delivery of care for service users ensuring that a quality service is provided within the locality. To develop and maintain productive working relationships with your team, managers, and other colleagues. To take personal responsibility to keep your knowledge up to date and to reflect on and evaluate your own values in the wider prison establishment.

Person Specification Professional Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (Mental Health) or Social Worker, Occupational Therapist
  • Evidence of post-registration continuing professional development activity
  • NMP registrant
Experience
  • Evidence of working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Understand mental health assessments, risk assessment and care planning
  • Awareness of evidence-based practice
  • Able to prioritise care management
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care
  • Understanding of the criminal justice pathway
  • Experience in a secured setting
Skills
  • Evidence of clinical assessment and formulation skills
  • Teaching and presentation skills
  • Postgraduate training for example CBT/DBT
