Job Description
Mental Health Practitioner - ADHD Pathway

Overview

We are expanding our service and are seeking an experienced, skilled and motivated B6 mental health practitioner to join our ADHD pathway. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about neuro developmental work and keen to further develop clinical skills within a supportive, experienced team.

Responsibilities

Main duties:

  • Specialist ADHD assessments using evidence based tools and person centred formulation
  • Contributing to MDT diagnostic decisions
  • Providing psycho education and care planning to young people, families and partner agencies
  • Liaising with families, schools and partner agencies
  • Supporting medication monitoring (if within scope)
  • Working within a neuro developmental pathway and multidisciplinary team
  • Leading or contributing to ADHD diagnostic pathways
  • Providing clinical interventions for neuro developmental needs
  • Maintaining high quality clinical documentation

Job Summary:

  • Provide assessment and treatment to children and young people with mental health needs.
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively within the MDT, providing consultation for other agencies/professionals.
  • Promote safeguarding and welfare of children and young people.
  • Deliver routine and urgent assessment and interventions using evidence based practice, under supervision.
  • Operate within the clinical and case management supervision framework.
Key Result Areas
  • Support the ongoing process of delivering a comprehensive CAMHS system.
  • Provide assessment, interventions, and therapy to children, young people with severe, complex and persistent mental health problems, including those at suicidal risk.
  • Apply safeguarding knowledge and guidelines in clinical work.
  • Commit to a quality approach for patient care.
  • Demonstrate concentration and sustained effort in assessing complex family issues.
  • Manage own caseload, accessing appropriate support and guidance.
  • Operate within the clinical and case management supervision framework.
  • Provide training, consultation and supervision to other service providers and junior staff.
  • Participate in the development, audit, and review of service provision.
  • Undertake extended hours of work alongside specialist CAMHS practitioners.
  • Collaborate to provide coherent and coordinated mental health services for children and young people.
  • Use IT systems (including Rio) to ensure high quality, secure data collection.
  • Participate in an agreed clinical audit programme and report lessons learned.
  • Comply with clinical and corporate governance frameworks.
  • Support engagement of service stakeholders and users in service delivery.
  • Actively promote user/carer involvement in care planning/delivery.
  • Work in an innovative and child focused manner, pursuing continuous improvement.
  • Apply Trust policies in instances of aggression, acute distress and disturbed mental health presentations.
  • Maintain relevant professional registration.
  • Communicate concerns through relevant management processes.
  • Engage in annual appraisal and practice development.
Person Specification Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage own caseload.
  • Good negotiation and problem solving skills.
  • Effective record keeping and report writing, including care planning and risk assessments.
  • Teamworking skills; ability to work across disciplines, predict and manage inter disciplinary tensions, and foster good working practices.
Training
  • Training and experience relating to specialist CAMHS.
  • Experience delivering training to others.
Qualifications
  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g., nursing or allied medicine).
  • Dip SW or relevant mental health profession.
  • Membership of a professional body.
  • Post graduate qualification in mental health (CBT, Family Therapy, Counselling).
  • A teaching and assessing qualification.
Experience
  • Substantial post qualification experience, including work with children, young people and their carers in a mental health or complex care setting.
  • Multidisciplinary team working.
  • Inter agency liaison and consultation.
  • Experience supervising/mentoring junior staff.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance (NHS plan, Mental Health Legislation, Children's Act, Education Act, Working Together, Children's NSF, Every Child Matters).
  • Clinical/therapeutic knowledge and skills in mental health.
  • Experience in assessment and risk management; ability to implement evidence based practice.
  • Proven ability to work with other agencies and disciplines in partnership.
  • Experience of safeguarding children and young people.
  • Experience in community settings and different cultural contexts.
  • Knowledge and experience of Equality and Diversity.
