Medical Underwriter

We are looking for an experienced Medical Underwriter to help us deliver an outstanding service for our customers. Experience in medical underwriting, with a recognised underwriting authority. Ideally within Life, Income Protection and Critical illness.

• Provide fair and balanced underwriting decisions within own authority limits, assessing initial applications and additional medical evidence.
• Manage the end to end customer journey, from application stage through to decision.
• Handle more complex cases and referrals while supporting less experienced team members.
• Demonstrate stakeholder management and communication skills, liaising with customer services, sales, reinsurance partners and medical officers, in addition to a strong technical background.
• Maintain a proactive approach to your own learning and development, ensuring underwriting practices and skills are continually improved.

• Experience working within a Medical Underwriting Team and making an accurate assessment of medical evidence gathered.
• Ability to underwrite for multiple Protection product lines.
• Understanding of underwriting manuals and processes.
• Knowledge of the Protection products that require underwriting input.
• Maintains underwriting knowledge with industry and market changes.
• Inquisitive and customer centric approach with an ability to think outside the norm and challenge existing processes.
• Strong communication skills with all types of customers, contributing to a team delivering service excellence.
• Ability to work to deadlines and manage own workload, prioritising cases when required.
• GR1 or other industry recognised qualification (desired).
