Job Description

We are seeking a highly organised Medical Secretary to join our team.

The ideal candidate would have experience of using EMIS, good sound knowledge of medical terminology, and have worked as a Medical Secretary within the NHS.

You must be accurate, have good communication skills and be a team player.

The position available is part time, approx. 15-20 hours per week. Shift times are negotiable.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive secretarial support to clinicians
  • Managing patient referrals, and correspondence
  • Managing medical reports, insurance claims and subject access requests
  • Handling confidential patient information in line with data protection regulations
  • Liaising with patients, healthcare professionals, and external organisations
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records
Job responsibilities

As a valued member of our administration team you will play a key role in keeping our practice running smoothly and ensuring every patient has a positive experience. Your responsibilities may include any of the following, with flexibility depending on practice needs and guidance from the Deputy Practice Manager or Practice Manager:

  • Providing full secretarial support to GPs and clinical staff
  • Processing referrals via the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS)
  • Managing incoming and outgoing post, emails, and documents
  • Handling patient queries in a professional and confidential manner
  • Maintaining accurate patient records using clinical systems
  • Liaising with hospitals, community services, and other healthcare providers
Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a Medical Secretary or NHS administrator
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
  • Understanding of confidentiality and GDPR in a healthcare setting
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of NHS systems such as e-RS, and EMIS
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
