Job Description

We are looking to recruit a Medical Receptionist to join our established friendly team. This is for 9.5 hours per week.

They will have excellent communication skills, an aptitude for great customer service with a friendly and compassionate nature. The applicant would need to have a flexible attitude, a willingness to develop and be adaptable to change.

Responsibilities

You will work in a demanding environment and be committed to delivering excellent care to patients and support to our clinical team.

  • Report to the Practice Leadership and be supported by the ELM Head Office team, ensuring the service provided to patients meets high standards through a cohesive, team driven experience.
  • Facilitate patient access and direct patients to the most appropriate service.
  • Document contemporaneous and accurate notes and coding into the clinical system.
  • Work as part of the team to achieve good outcomes in CQC, QOF, enhanced services and local improvement schemes.
  • Ensure awareness of statutory and local procedures, including referral systems, coding, summarising, processing requests and administration.
  • Recognise signs and symptoms relating to safeguarding.
  • Assess problems presented opportunistically by patients, dealing with their admin and support needs.
  • Obtain and document informed consent, chaperone, provide information, and manage changes in circumstances.
  • Ensure infection control and cleaning guidelines are followed.
  • Monitor and manage the maintenance of stock and equipment, including refrigeration and emergency equipment, in line with CQC standards.
  • Provide health education through referral to appropriate staff or pharmacy, leaflets and approved online guidance.
  • Contribute a Medical Receptionist perspective to the practice development plan.
Core duties
  • Greet patients/visitors at reception, check patients in or handle enquiries.
  • Perform general administrative duties such as dealing with incoming/outgoing post, prescriptions, scanning, accurate data entry, summarisation of notes, referrals, processing new patient registration forms and record deductions.
  • Provide administrative support to the senior admin and clinical team.
  • Answer all telephone calls promptly, book and manage appointments, visits and care navigation in line with practice protocols.
  • Chaperone patients if required.
  • Comply with procedures for opening and closing the practice.
  • When the Office Supervisor is absent, liaise with IT for computer/phone related issues.
  • Show flexibility to support the reception team with changing shifts to cover staff holidays and sickness.
  • Carry out any other duties reasonably requested by the line manager or Practice Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
  • GCSE grade A-C in Maths and English.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience of working within a GP surgery.
  • Previous experience with the SystmOne clinical system.
  • Experience working with the general public and carrying out administrative duties.
  • Knowledge of Primary Care systems and processes, including confidentiality and information governance.
  • Good accuracy in record keeping and strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work outside core office hours and adapt to extended rotations.
Schedule

Day shift - 9.5 hours per week.
