Medical Receptionist

We are looking for a friendly and motivated Medical Receptionist to join our supportive GP practice team in Gateshead town centre. This is a varied role where you will be the first point of contact for patients, providing a welcoming and professional service both at reception and over the telephone.
Working hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday: 11:00am 6:30pm Thursday: 8:30am start, with a flexible finish between 2:00pm and 4:00pm (to be agreed)
Main duties and responsibilities- Greeting patients and visitors and directing them appropriately
- Answering telephone calls and responding to patient enquiries
- Booking and managing appointments within the practice system
- Processing repeat prescription requests in line with practice procedures
- Processing and distributing incoming and outgoing correspondence
- Updating patient records and maintaining accurate data on the clinical system
- Scanning, filing and managing documentation
- Taking messages and passing on information to the appropriate team member
- Supporting clinicians and the wider practice team with administrative tasks
- Maintaining a tidy and welcoming reception and waiting area
Duties may be varied from time to time depending on practice needs, workload and staffing levels.

- Friendly, professional and approachable manner
- Good organisational skills and ability to work in a busy environment
- Reliable and able to work as part of a team
- Good IT and computer skills
- Flexible and willing to cover colleagues holidays and occasional weekend work
- Experience working in a customer service or administrative role
- Experience dealing with the public and handling enquiries
- Experience working in a GP practice or healthcare setting
- Experience using the EMIS Web clinical system
- Good general education, including English and Maths
- Basic IT qualifications or evidence of good computer skills
