About usWe are a large practice (circa 19000 patient population) based in the heart of the B&NES countryside. We have a large multidisciplinary team, supported by a range of clinical modalities including nursing, a pharmacy team, physiotherapy and home visiting practitioner.
Job responsibilitiesThe duties and responsibilitiesto be undertaken by members of the reception team may include any or all ofthe items listed below. Duties may bevaried from time to time under the direction of the lead receptionist ormember of the management team dependent on current and evolving practiceworkload and staffing levels:
- Processingface to face and telephone enquiries and requests for appointments, visits,and telephone consultation, ensuring callers are directed to the appropriatehealthcare professional or management or other department as appropriate.
Initiatingcontact with and responding to requests from patients, other team members andoutside agencies.
Exercisecare and proper use of telephones and computer systems in normal dailyworking, maintaining and updating patient information in the practiceappointment system.
Processingpersonal and medical information from the patient in accordance with practiceprotocols, maintaining confidentiality and recording informationappropriately within the clinical systems, such as triage requests, messages,updates on health status, medical information on appointments etc.
Openingup/locking up of the practice premises and maintaining security in accordancewith practice protocols.
Checkspatients and visitors in when they arrive at the surgery for appointments
Assistpatients in the use of the self-check in screen and encourages the increaseduse of this method of checking in, as appropriate
Passon urgent information to doctors, nurses and other surgery staff members andalso back to patients in an appropriate way
Providingadhoc clerical assistance to other members of the practice team from time totime including using IT software such as Microsoft Word or finding or filingphysical documents or patient files
Handlingand storing patient samples brought in at the reception desk in anappropriate way maintaining infection control standards and making sure thesamples are suitably labelled with the patients details before the patientleaves.
Keepingown work space, the reception area, waiting room, noticeboards and leafletdispensers tidy and free from obstruction and clutter.
Attendand participate in any team or whole practice meetings when required. These may be on days you do not normallywork, however you will be at times expected to attend and overtime will bepaid. Notice for such meetings will begiven in advance.
Otherduties as requested from time to time.
Person Specification Experience- Previous experience in a similar role is desirable.
- Good general standard of GCSE results A-C
