What you'll do

In the capacity of Medical Negligence Solicitor based in Bristol, you will:



  • Independently manage a varied caseload comprising complex and high-value medical negligence claims from initial instruction through to resolution or trial, ensuring each client receives bespoke support throughout their engagement.

  • Provide authoritative legal counsel on matters encompassing a wide array of clinical areas including obstetric injuries, delayed diagnoses (such as meningitis), fatal claims, inquests, anaesthetic errors, neurosurgical complications, cardiac issues, oncology disputes, and psychiatric care.

  • Offer clear and compassionate legal guidance to clients at every juncture of their claim process so they remain informed, reassured, and empowered during periods of distress.

  • Secure early interim payments where feasible to facilitate rehabilitation and address urgent care requirements for clients affected by serious injury or illness.

  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across various departments to ensure seamless service delivery while sharing knowledge regarding best practices within the field of clinical negligence.

  • Support junior members of the team by providing considered guidance on case management strategies and contributing actively to ongoing departmental training sessions.

  • Engage in business development activities by nurturing existing client relationships and identifying new avenues for growth within the medical negligence practice area.

  • Maintain meticulous records in accordance with regulatory obligations whilst upholding the highest standards of honesty and integrity throughout all aspects of your professional conduct.

  • Participate constructively in firm-wide responsible business programmes including pro bono initiatives, community investment projects, and inclusion network groups.

What you bring

To excel as a Medical Negligence Solicitor in this distinguished role you will bring:



  • Demonstrable experience managing claimant-side clinical negligence cases independently from inception through litigation or settlement with proven outcomes in complex scenarios.

  • Comprehensive understanding of medical terminology pertinent to obstetric injuries, delayed diagnoses (including meningitis), fatal claims, anaesthetic errors, neurosurgical complications, cardiac issues, oncology matters, psychiatric care or related fields.

  • Exceptional capacity to deliver lucid written and oral legal advice with sensitivity towards clients' emotional needs during distressing circumstances.

  • Proven ability to cultivate trust-based relationships with clients by demonstrating empathy alongside technical proficiency throughout all stages of their claim journey.

  • Experience participating in business development activities such as networking events or client relationship management initiatives within the legal sector.

  • Excellent organisational skills enabling effective prioritisation amidst competing deadlines whilst maintaining scrupulous attention to detail under pressure.

  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards including honesty, integrity, confidentiality and compliance with regulatory frameworks governing legal practice.
