About your new role

Our Healthcare team is a vibrant specialist department. We provide advice on all aspects of healthcare law, including clinical negligence, EL/PL, patient safety, human rights, and mental health. The ethos of the team is to work hard for our clients to secure the right outcomes. We continuously strive to improve our technical skills and meet evolving client needs. The healthcare sector is fast-moving and offers interesting work.

We are seeking a qualified Solicitor or Cilex to join our team. The successful candidate will assist partners in defending healthcare claims, including delegating to junior lawyers. Main duties and responsibilities;
  • Manage a caseload of defendant medical malpractice claims, from notification through to trial, assisting partners.
  • Liaise with insurers, brokers, solicitors, clients, and witnesses to gather evidence.
  • Instruct experts and counsel as appropriate.
  • Control case management diaries and action lists.
  • Attend court hearings, conferences, and JSMs as instructed and with client approval.
  • Draft correspondence, reports, and action plans.
  • Assist in supervising and developing junior team members.
  • Complete MI procedures and ensure compliance with Data Protection, CPR, and rehabilitation protocols.
  • Stay updated on legal developments in clinical negligence.
  • Achieve financial and KPI targets, meet deadlines, and maintain quality standards.

About You

You will have relevant experience and a genuine interest in healthcare law.

Essential criteria include:

  • 1-10 years PQE or equivalent litigation experience.
  • Experience in defendant clinical negligence work, via insurers or NHSR.
  • Good knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules and pre-action protocols.
  • Willingness to consider cross-qualification from defendant large loss or disease litigation.
  • Experience handling multi-defendant cases.
  • Interest in business development and client training.
  • Understanding of insurance law and relationships between insurers, brokers, and clients.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work to deadlines.
  • Team player with a positive attitude and solution-driven approach.
  • Ability to seek supervision when needed.
