Medial Laboratory Assistant

Applications are invited for the position of Medical Laboratory Assistant. This is an opportunity for a person to work as a Medical Laboratory Assistant in a busy department which provides a full range of clinical and diagnostic services to NHS Tayside and North East Fife.

The Blood Sciences Department is based on two sites at Ninewells Hospital, a large Teaching Hospital and Medical School in Dundee, and Perth Royal Infirmary in Perth.

We are looking for a member of staff who can demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team, show initiative and flexibility, and has the enthusiasm to train further. The role rotates through Core Automation, including pre analytical areas and specialist sections. You will support professional scientific staff in delivering analytical services, carry out general laboratory duties, and assist with the preparation and receipt of patient samples for analysis.

Previous experience and employment in a hospital environment is desirable, but not essential. Public holiday and weekend working will be required.

You will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment. Hours of work are 36 per week core hours rostered between 08:00 and 20:00, with additional weekend and public holiday shifts on a shared roster and possible out of hours sessions. The appointment is a fixed term secondment for 12 months.
