Job Description

Our client is a leading UK manufacturer of essential building products. Operating across 17 sites in the UK, they provide high-quality products that support both traditional and modern construction methods, ensuring the continued growth of the UK construction industry.

Job Role & Key Responsibilities:

Mechanical Maintenance Engineer - 4 on 4 off (days & nights) shift pattern. Responsible for maintaining mechanical plant and equipment across a heavy industrial, dusty environment, supporting both reactive and planned maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and repair mechanical equipment including conveyors, mixers, ovens, and cutting machinery.
  • Carry out 60% reactive maintenance, troubleshooting faults on motors, sensors, wiring, diagrams, and mechanical changeovers.
  • Support planned maintenance, installations, and equipment upgrades.
  • Respond quickly to breakdowns and support electrical colleagues when required.
  • Work collaboratively with shift teams, production, and management to meet site targets.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards and company procedures.
  • Assist with hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, and cutting tasks where required.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Time-served apprenticeship or recognised mechanical qualification.
  • Strong industrial background (manufacturing, heavy plant, construction materials).
  • Proven mechanical fault-finding skills, including sensors, motors, diagrams, and machine changeovers.
  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and automated machinery.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dirty, dusty environment.
  • Good communication skills and a proactive, hands on attitude.
Desirable Skills:
  • Welding & cutting experience.
  • Experience working with older equipment and upgraded plant.
  • Strong testing and diagnostics abilities.
  • Familiarity with industrial installations and control systems.
