Mechanical Commissioning Manager - (192554)

Primary Objective

As a Mechanical Commissioning Manager, you will lead and oversee the commissioning of mechanical systems across complex engineering projects. This includes HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other building or industrial mechanical systems. The role ensures that all commissioning activities are thoroughly planned, executed, validated, and documented to meet project requirements, regulatory standards, and client expectations. You will play a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and fully operational mechanical systems.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure all commissioning deliverables are completed on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standards
  • Develop and implement commissioning strategies, plans, and procedures aligned with project objectives
  • Provide technical guidance on commissioning requirements, performance criteria, and project scopes
  • Prepare or review commissioning programmes, integrated with the master construction programme
  • Lead commissioning of mechanical systems, including HVAC (chillers, AHUs, FCUs), ventilation systems, pumps, piping networks, and plumbing systems
  • Manage the witnessing of Mechanical static testing and functionality testing of equipment
  • Oversee air and water testing commissioning activities to ensure system performance meets design intent
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
  • Review and provide technical input on mechanical drawings, specifications, equipment submittals, and O&M manuals
  • Verify proper installation and operation of fire protection systems (e.g., sprinklers, hydrants, suppression systems)
  • Ensure systems meet energy efficiency and sustainability targets, where applicable
  • Prepare detailed Commissioning reports outlining progress, technical findings, and key project issues
  • Be responsible for all aspects of project and site safety for yourself and others including production of risk assessments, method statements and toolbox talks
  • Monitor project scope changes and communicate impacts internally
  • Support project financial awareness by tracking commissioning-related costs
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical information clearly
  • Support management of commissioning budgets and resources
  • Contribute to delay analysis and recovery planning related to commissioning
  • Assist with variation assessments linked to commissioning scope changes
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in commissioning or project management within mechanical/building services or industrial environments
  • Demonstrated expertise in commissioning mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection)
  • Strong knowledge of chilled water systems, air distribution, ventilation, and hydronic systems
  • Familiarity with Air and Water balancing processes, system optimisation, and performance verification
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices (BSRIA, CIBSE and ASHRAE)
  • Experience working within quality and environmental management systems
  • Professional membership (e.g., CSA, CIBSE, ASHRAE, or equivalent) is advantageous
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general IT tools
Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of 4 years of industry experience dealing with mechanical, electrical and controls disciplines
  • Proven ability to lead commissioning efforts from design through project completion
  • Should have a passion for sustainability and knowledge of the commissioning process and experience with design, installation and operation of building systems (including but not limited to: HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and controls)
  • Must be willing to travel to site-based locations as reasonably based on HDR needs
  • Must have demonstrated ability to troubleshoot HVAC, TAB, and Controls and have excellent report writing skills
  • Must have a solid understanding of operational requirements, safety requirements, code inspections and maintenance considerations
  • Strong written, verbal communication and time management skills; exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to interact with people at all levels
  • Technical knowledge of MEP systems and HVAC expertise
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Multitasking ability
  • Valid driver's license
