Maths Tutor - Adult Education (Prison Sector)

Location: Maidstone, Kent Position: Adult Education Maths Tutor Start Date: As soon as possible

About the Role: Academics is seeking a committed and adaptable Maths Tutor to deliver adult education within the prison education sector in Maidstone. This unique and rewarding role involves supporting adult learners to develop essential numeracy skills that can improve their independence, confidence, and opportunities upon release.

You will be working within a secure environment, delivering structured maths lessons to small groups of learners with varying abilities. Lessons will cover Functional Skills Maths (Entry Level to Level 2) and may include personalised support for learners who require additional guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan and deliver engaging, level-appropriate Maths sessions to adult learners

Support learners to build confidence in numeracy and achieve their educational goals

Adapt teaching styles to meet diverse learning needs and backgrounds

Maintain accurate records of progress, attendance, and assessments

Work collaboratively with prison staff, Academics, and other education professionals

Uphold safeguarding, behavioural, and security expectations within the prison setting

Requirements:

Recognised teaching qualification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, DET, PTLLS/DTLLS/CTLLS)

Experience delivering Maths or Functional Skills to adults or older learners

Strong classroom management and the ability to build positive rapport

Enhanced DBS and prison clearance (or willingness to obtain both)

Resilience, professionalism, and the ability to work confidently in a secure environment
