A specialist secondary provision in Sunderland is seeking a Maths Intervention Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 11-16 who require additional help developing their numeracy skills.
Many pupils within the school have learning difficulties, ADHD or autism, which can make traditional classroom learning more challenging.
Your role will focus on helping pupils build confidence and understanding in mathematics.
The Type of Person They Are Looking ForThe school is looking for someone enthusiastic and confident supporting maths learning.
They are particularly interested in candidates who are:
- Comfortable explaining maths concepts in simple terms
- Patient with students who may struggle with numeracy
- Encouraging and positive
- Able to build strong relationships with pupils
Experience working in education is helpful but not essential.
Candidates with strong maths skills may begin on a trainee teaching assistant scale while gaining classroom experience.
Key ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities may include:
- Supporting pupils during maths lessons
- Delivering small group numeracy intervention sessions
- Helping pupils develop confidence with key maths skills
- Supporting GCSE preparation where appropriate
- Encouraging pupils to remain engaged during lessons
Classes are typically small groups of 8-10 pupils, allowing staff to provide more personalised support.
