Maths Academic Coach September 2026 to July 2027 (academic year) £85 - £105 per day 'Good' secondary school, Ward of Selly Oak 1:1 and small group academic support for exam preparation in KS4 MathsIf you want experience that strengthens your application for a PGCE, this Maths Academic Coach role gives you a clear, structured focus in a KS4 setting. You will work with GCSE pupils who need consistent intervention, clearer methods, and more confidence under exam conditions. You will help them close gaps, practise the right skills, and improve outcomes through targeted sessions that link directly to classroom learning.The Role
- You will deliver 1:1 and small group intervention for KS4 Maths, focused on GCSE exam preparation.
- You will run short, structured sessions on core areas such as number, algebra, ratio, percentages, graphs, and problem-solving.
- You will help pupils secure method marks by modelling step-by-step working and improving accuracy.
- You will support exam technique, including interpreting questions, choosing strategies, and checking answers properly.
- You will build confidence with timed practice, retrieval starters, and targeted "fix the gap" tasks.
- You will support pupils who struggle with focus or confidence by using clear routines and calm, consistent expectations.
- You will track progress and common errors, then feedback clearly to the class teacher and department.
- You will follow safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times and report concerns immediately.
- You will have a 2:2 degree or above, ideally in Maths, Engineering, Physics, Economics, Computer Science, or a closely related subject.
- You will have GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above.
- You will explain Maths clearly and keep your delivery simple, calm, and method focused.
- You will be confident working with teenagers and setting professional boundaries.
- You will be organised, consistent, and comfortable delivering structured intervention sessions week after week.
- You will have an enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or you will be willing to obtain one.
