Job Description
About the role 
Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust - 18.75 hours per week - Maternity Vaccinator.

Responsibilities- Provide the maternal immunisation programme, including seasonal flu, pertussis, RSV and COVID 19 vaccinations.
- Conduct clinical assessments, review complex medical histories and assess suitability for vaccination.
- Counsel service users on risks, benefits, side effects and obtain informed consent.
- Administer vaccinations using aseptic technique and reconstitute vaccines per manufacturer guidance.
- Document vaccinations accurately in the medical record, RAVS and Badgernet.
- Participate in clinical audit programmes, service evaluation and monitor national and local KPIs.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of national guidance and Trust policies.
- Educate and supervise staff on immunisation skills and protocols.
- Coordinate multi site activity and liaise with midwives, GP, obstetricians, pharmacy and supply chain.
- Respond to clinical emergencies, adverse reactions and report incidents via Datix.
- Promote best practice in health, safety, and infection prevention and control.
- Work in partnership with midwives, GP and obstetricians to ensure all women are offered appropriate vaccinations.
- Assist with coordination of the multi site activity and day to day delivery of the immunisation programme.
- Administer vaccinations under an approved PGD and maintain accurate records.
- Encourage healthy lifestyle and arrange support services for women when required.
- Ensure confidentiality and safety of patient information.
- Maintain NMC registration, CPD and attend mandatory Trust training.
- Provide knowledge sharing and staff education within the Maternal Immunisation programme.
- Report safety incidents and maintain risk assessments.
- Promote a positive professional and organisational culture.
- Knowledge of statutory regulations governing nursing.
- Clinical experience of administering vaccinations and immunisations.
- Clinical case work and managing own work with limited supervision.
- An understanding of safeguarding issues.
- Working in a maternity setting.
- Overseeing/ensuring smooth running of clinic lists.
- Previous experience with immunisation programmes.
- Demonstrates a good understanding of the nursing process.
- Demonstrates competence to clinically risk assess suitability for immunisation based on medical history.
- Able to efficiently plan, prioritise and allocate work.
- Able to manage time effectively.
- Must be able to work on own initiative and supervise other staff effectively.
- Ability to teach and support other team members.
- Demonstrates knowledge and application of research based practices.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, guidance and good practice.
- Demonstrates knowledge of clinical audit and clinical effectiveness.
- Awareness of the value of service user involvement and participation.
- Demonstrate an understanding of Equality and Diversity.
- Knowledge of computerised maternity systems, particularly Badgernet and NIPE Smart.
- Degree/Diploma in Nursing.
- NMC Registered Nurse.
- Evidence of post registration experience.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- Trained/competent in venepuncture.
- Undertaken immunisation training as required.
- Basic Life Support trained.
- PA/PS trained.
- IT skills.
- Badgernet user.
- NIVS user.
- Awareness of RAVS.
