Manufacturing Technician Supervisor vacancy in North East UK (117lw)

We're supporting a UK based engineering and technology organisation delivering specialist equipment into safety critical and highly regulated environments worldwide. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Manufacturing Supervisor to lead a team of technicians responsible for the build, test, and repair of complex electronic and mechanical systems. This is an excellent opportunity for ex military engineers or senior technicians looking to transition into a leadership role within a structured, quality driven environment. You'll be responsible for the day to day leadership of a production team, ensuring outputs are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. This is a hands on leadership role - you'll balance people management with technical oversight, ensuring work is completed in line with defined processes, schedules, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership & Development - Lead, coach, and develop a team of technicians.
  • Operational Delivery - Oversee daily production, assembly, and test activities; ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and quality standards; maintain accurate production records, KPIs, and reporting data.
  • Technical Oversight - Support hands on assembly, testing, and fault finding where required; ensure high standards of workmanship across mechanical and electronic builds.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance - Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant working environment.
  • Continuous Improvement & Collaboration - Work with cross functional teams to improve processes and efficiency; support implementation of digital tools and production systems.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience leading or supervising a technical or production team.
  • Background in engineering, manufacturing, or maintenance environments.
  • Hands on experience with assembly, testing, or repair of equipment.
  • Strong understanding of quality standards, SOPs, and HSE requirements.
  • Ability to manage workloads, prioritise tasks, and deliver to deadlines.
  • Desirable: experience in regulated sectors (defence, aerospace, medical); exposure to Lean/continuous improvement methodologies; familiarity with ERP/MRP or digital production systems; formal engineering or technical qualifications.

This role is a strong fit for those with experience in military engineering or technical trades (REME, Royal Engineers, Royal Signals, RAF engineering, Royal Navy, etc.).

You'll be joining a supportive and collaborative engineering team where standards matter, but people are trusted and developed. The organisation places strong emphasis on quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
