Maintenance Technician

Location: Aylesford, KentType: Full-time, PermanentShift Pattern: Rotating / site-based

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Technician to join a busy manufacturing/production environment. The role involves maintaining, repairing, and improving both production and facility equipment in line with current legislation, health & safety standards, and site maintenance systems. You'll play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, minimising downtime, and supporting production operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and routine equipment checks
  • Diagnose faults and respond promptly to site breakdowns
  • Perform reactive and proactive maintenance to minimise downtime
  • Support production teams as required to meet operational demands
  • Complete weekly site inspections and maintain accurate maintenance records
  • Carry out equipment installations and modifications in line with current regulations
  • Ensure compliance with food hygiene and food safety standards at all times
  • Liaise with contractors and chaperone visitors when required
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping across work areas and workshops
  • Monitor spare parts stock levels and report requirements
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities
  • Ensure clear communication and effective handovers between shifts
  • Undertake any additional reasonable duties as required

Skills & Experience Required

  • Relevant engineering qualification (minimum NVQ Level 2 or 3 / Engineering NC)
  • Electrical or mechanical bias (multi-skilled preferred)
  • Electrical competency (e.g. 18th Edition desirable)
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, food, or production environment
  • Confident using hand and power tools
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable (but not essential)

  • PLC and drive experience
  • Plumbing or HVAC knowledge
  • Ducting, pipework, or ventilation experience
  • Metalwork and TIG welding (stainless steel) experience
