Maintenance Technician
Location: Aylesford, KentType: Full-time, PermanentShift Pattern: Rotating / site-based
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Technician to join a busy manufacturing/production environment. The role involves maintaining, repairing, and improving both production and facility equipment in line with current legislation, health & safety standards, and site maintenance systems. You'll play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, minimising downtime, and supporting production operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and routine equipment checks
- Diagnose faults and respond promptly to site breakdowns
- Perform reactive and proactive maintenance to minimise downtime
- Support production teams as required to meet operational demands
- Complete weekly site inspections and maintain accurate maintenance records
- Carry out equipment installations and modifications in line with current regulations
- Ensure compliance with food hygiene and food safety standards at all times
- Liaise with contractors and chaperone visitors when required
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping across work areas and workshops
- Monitor spare parts stock levels and report requirements
- Participate in continuous improvement activities
- Ensure clear communication and effective handovers between shifts
- Undertake any additional reasonable duties as required
Skills & Experience Required
- Relevant engineering qualification (minimum NVQ Level 2 or 3 / Engineering NC)
- Electrical or mechanical bias (multi-skilled preferred)
- Electrical competency (e.g. 18th Edition desirable)
- Experience working in a manufacturing, food, or production environment
- Confident using hand and power tools
- Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable (but not essential)
- PLC and drive experience
- Plumbing or HVAC knowledge
- Ducting, pipework, or ventilation experience
- Metalwork and TIG welding (stainless steel) experience
