Job Description
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Engineer (mechanically biased) to join a well-established manufacturing business in Clitheroe. This is a days-based position offering long-term stability, a varied mechanical workload, and strong support from both engineering and operations teams.
An on-call rota operates on a 1-in-5 basis, covering two local sites. A company vehicle is provided while on call for full usage across the week.
What You'll DoHealth, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant working environment
- Ensure all engineering activities meet HSE, food safety, environmental, and company standards
- Contribute to the development and review of risk assessments and safe systems of work
- Maintain engineering areas to a high GMP standard
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on plant, machinery, and production equipment
- Respond to mechanical breakdowns quickly to minimise downtime
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical faults, with basic electrical fault-finding where required
- Dismantle, repair, and reassemble machinery using hand and power tools
- Maintain and adjust mechanical systems including conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, motors, and pneumatics
- Inspect components using precision measuring equipment (e.g. callipers, micrometres)
- Fabricate and modify components using workshop machinery
- Welding experience desirable but not essential
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, manuals, and technical specifications
- Accurately log all work on a CMMS system and complete follow-up actions
- Communicate faults, progress updates, and repair times effectively
- Support root cause analysis (RCA) and improvement projects
- Work independently and collaboratively within the engineering team
- Monitor and maintain stock levels of engineering spares and consumables
- Assist with parts ordering and verification
- Use materials efficiently to control costs and minimise waste
- Maintain up-to-date mechanical knowledge through training and development
- Provide engineering support and input where required
- Contribute to team KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives
- Apprentice-trained engineer or equivalent mechanical qualification
- Mechanically biased maintenance background
- Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work
- Practical experience with LOTO procedures
- Experience using CMMS systems and structured fault-finding methods
- Strong mechanical problem-solving and diagnostic skills
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
- Competent with hand and power tools
- High attention to detail and proactive approach to maintenance
- Full UK driving licence (Category B)
- Understanding of working at height and in confined spaces (training provided)
- Basic electrical fault-finding capability advantageous
- Competent using Microsoft Office and tablet-based systems
- Able to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
