Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer

Salary: £49,423
Type: Full-time / Permanent
Shift: Monday-Friday, 10pm-6am
Location: Knowsley

One of Europe's largest food manufacturers is looking for a strong Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Nights) to join a high-performing production site. If you're confident fault-finding under pressure, comfortable working 50/50 mechanical and electrical, and want real stability with strong earning potential - this is a role worth considering. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll play a critical role in keeping production running, delivering both planned and reactive maintenance to maximise plant performance and minimise downtime.

Role Overview

As a key member of the Engineering team, you will take ownership of both PPM and breakdown response across site. This is a true multi-skilled role within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment, requiring hands-on electrical and mechanical expertise to ensure equipment reliability and production efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and routine machinery inspections
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical breakdowns
  • Complete repairs, upgrades, and installations across the factory
  • Minimise downtime and support efficient production start-ups
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and update spares inventory
  • Support health & safety, hygiene, and lean manufacturing (5S) standards
  • Work alongside subcontractors, ensuring permits and procedures are followed
  • Provide engineering cover in line with business demands
Your Profile
  • Time-served apprentice with ONC qualification or higher; 17th or 18th Edition qualified
  • 50/50 mechanical and electrical skillset
  • PLC fault-finding and diagnostic experience
  • Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, and steam boilers
  • Background in food manufacturing (advantageous)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently on night shifts
