Job Description

Job Title: Automation Maintenance Engineer

Location: Reading

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000

Start Date: ASAP

About the Role: We are seeking a skilled Automation Maintenance Engineer to ensure the reliability and performance of our automated equipment and control systems. This hands on role is perfect for engineers with a strong automation or electrical background who enjoy diagnosing faults, improving system performance, and working with PLC controlled machinery. Key Responsibilities of Automation Maintenance Engineer:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair automated production and control systems
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with PLC controlled equipment, sensors, drives, and control panels
  • Support planned preventative maintenance and respond to breakdowns
  • Make PLC, HMI, and parameter adjustments as required
  • Identify and implement improvements to system reliability and performance
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering teams, and external contractors
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely and in line with site procedures
  • Complete maintenance records and technical reports

Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience in maintenance, automation, or electrical engineering roles
  • Strong fault finding skills on automated machinery and control systems
  • Knowledge of PLC based systems, including fault diagnosis and basic modifications
  • Relevant electrical or automation qualification (apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or equivalent experience)
  • Willingness to work shifts and respond to call outs if required
  • Experience with PLC/SCADA/HMI platforms such as Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider, or similar
  • Understanding of industrial networks, drives, servos, or instrumentation
