We are seeking a skilled and passionate Magento 2 Developer to join our client's dynamic and growing technology team. Our client is based in the UK. The successful candidate will be a key player in the architecture, development, and maintenance of our sophisticated e-commerce platforms. This role requires a developer who is not only technically proficient but also a proactive problem-solver and a collaborative team member.
You will be primarily responsible for delivering high-quality, well-structured, and maintainable code for our Magento 2 projects. Your contributions will directly impact the success of our clients and the evolution of our e-commerce solutions. Job Description- Custom Development: Design, develop, and implement custom Magento 2 modules, extensions, and features to meet specific business requirements.
- Platform Maintenance & Optimization: Proactively identify and resolve bugs, performance bottlenecks, and security vulnerabilities. Continuously work to improve the speed, scalability, and stability of our Magento 2 instances.
- API Integration: Integrate our e-commerce platforms with a variety of third-party systems, including ERPs, CRMs, payment gateways, and shipping providers, using REST and SOAP APIs.
- Code Quality & Best Practices: Write clean, efficient, well-documented, and reusable code that adheres to Magento 2 best practices and our internal coding standards.
- Collaboration & Workflow: Actively participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, planning, and deployment. Collaborate effectively with project managers, designers, QA engineers, and other developers using tools like Jira, Slack, and GitHub/GitLab.
- Version Control & Code Review: Utilize Git for version control, managing branches, creating pull requests, and participating in constructive code reviews to maintain a high-quality codebase.
- Documentation: Create and maintain thorough technical documentation for all custom development and integration work.
- Tools, access and licenses will be provided by the client.
- Any other miscellaneous duties and responsibilities related to the above.
E DUCATION, ESSENTIAL AND TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field.
- Professional Experience: 3-5 years of proven professional software development experience, with a significant focus on e-commerce platforms.
- Magento 2 Expertise: Proven, hands-on experience in developing and customizing the Magento 2 (Adobe Commerce) platform. This includes custom module development, theming, and a deep understanding of its core architecture.
- Core Technology Stack: Proficient in modern PHP, specifically PHP 8.x+.
- MySQL: Solid understanding of MySQL and experience writing efficient database queries.
- API Proficiency: Demonstrable experience in consuming and integrating both REST and SOAP APIs.
- Git Workflow: A good understanding of Git processes, including branching strategies (e.g., GitFlow), pull requests, code reviews, and version management.
- Code Quality: A commitment to writing clean, high-quality, and maintainable code, with a solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles and design patterns.
- Communication: Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, essential for collaborating with a distributed team and documenting work clearly.
- Teamwork & Independence: Strong teamwork skills with a collaborative mindset, plus the ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and take ownership of projects.
- Problem-Solving: Exceptional problem-solving abilities and strong analytical thinking. You can effectively debug complex issues and devise robust solutions.
- Organization & Detail-Orientation: Good organizational habits with a keen eye for detail and a focus on producing accurate and thorough documentation.
- Adaptability: Capable of quickly getting up to speed on new projects and maintaining high performance and code quality, even under deadlines.
- Shopify Development: Experience with the Shopify platform, including Liquid templating, Theme Kit/CLI, and custom Shopify App development.
- Distributed Team Experience: Prior experience working effectively within a distributed, remote, or outsourced team environment.
- DevOps & Tooling: Familiarity with modern development tools and concepts such as Docker, Composer, and CI/CD pipelines.
- E-commerce Acumen: A broader understanding of the e-commerce landscape, including SEO best practices, conversion rate optimization, and web analytics.
- Work from home experience is a plus.
- Willing to take a practical exam to test coding and technical skills
- Willingness to adjust to foreign time zone shifts and take graveyard shifts
- Has his/her own laptop or desktop computer capable of running software required for the job, headphones, and a decent Internet connection capable of doing voice and video calls.

- Work from home. Full-time freelancer, contractual position
- Preferred Overlap-Oncall during 9AM - 1PM UK/London time (4 hours)
- The rest of the 3-4 hours will be flex-time
- 35-40 hours per week
- With 1 hour unpaid lunch break per day
- UK Holidays off and unpaid
- Any overtime needs to be pre-approved by the client
- COMPENSATION: $11 to $14 USD per hour depending on experience.
- CONTRACT: This is a 4-month long freelancing trial contract (full-time) that can be done remotely at home with a computer and a fast and reliable internet connection. There are no benefits for Freelancers on the evaluation period.
- POSSIBLE RENEWAL: If the client renews the contract there may be benefits such as paid sick leaves, paid vacation leaves, HMO health insurance and 13th month pay. Not guaranteed and depend on performance and client discretion.
- REPORTING TO: You will report to the designated manager from our client, and also to and will be supervised by Big Ideas Social Media Inc, the consultant and service provider (Agency). Big Ideas will provide your compensation and other HR needs locally.
- LEGAL STATUS: You will be classified as "Self-Employed" for legality and taxation. You will not be considered an employee of our Client or Big Ideas Philippines but a self-employed freelance professional.
