The Long Range Planner is responsible for supporting Departmental long-range and transportation-planning activities for Wicomico County and the Salisbury-Wicomico Metropolitan Planning Organization. This highly skilled, professional position assists with planning activities of County Departments, municipalities, and serves as a point of contact for various State and federal agencies. This position focuses on long term planning goals and future needs, often involving research, analysis, and policy development.

Duties Include:

  • Assisting with the development and implementation of plans, policies, and programs.
  • Supporting daily planning operations and administrative functions of the Salisbury Wicomico Metropolitan Planning Organization.
  • Compiling, analyzing, and formulating recommendations/strategies about existing and future community needs, based on growth and development.
  • Preparing and presenting maps and reports to the public, community groups, elected and appointed officials, and other governmental agencies.
  • Identifying, obtaining, and managing grants and vendor contracts.
  • Serving as a Department representative on planning related committees.
  • Responding to planning inquiries and requests for data.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Planning, Geography, Public Administration or Policy, or a closely related field. Strong understanding of planning principles, land use regulations, public policy, and program administration. Proficient in the use of MS Office suite. Experience with ESRI mapping products, preferred. Ability to present subject matter concisely in written, oral, and graphic form. Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, departments, outside agencies and jurisdictions, as well as the general public. Possession of a valid driver's license. Ability to attend occasional night meetings as support staff. Ability to pass background check and drug screen.
